Située au nord du Texas, Amarillo est une petite ville de la région du Texas Panhandle. Les grandes villes comme Albuquerque et Dallas sont à 5 heures de route. Amarillo est une porte d'entrée vers le vaste parc d'État Palo Duro Canyon, bordé de sentiers. Elle est également connue pour le Cadillac Ranch, une installation de voitures décorées de graffitis, partiellement enterrées dans un champ, le long de la célèbre Route 66. Le quartier historique est un excellent endroit pour dîner et faire du shopping d'antiquités.

On trouve un bon mélange d'hôtels et de motels de grandes marques, conviviaux pour les gays, à Amarillo. La scène gay à Amarillo est petite mais conviviale, avec quelques bars (conviviaux pour les gays) disséminés dans la ville. Il existe quelques excellents musées à visiter ici, comme le musée d'art d'Amarillo, le musée de l'air et de l'espace du Texas et le Temple de la renommée et musée de l'American Quarter Horse.
