Central Alabama Pride is one of the biggest and most important Pride events in the Deep South. Taking place primarily in Birmingham—the largest city in Alabama and the cultural heart of the state’s LGBTQ+ community—the celebration typically spans key areas like the Lakeview District, home to the Sunset Parade along 7th Avenue South, and Historic Linn Park, where PrideFest is held.
The term "Central Alabama" refers to a broader region that includes surrounding counties such as Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, and St. Clair. Central Alabama Pride brings together LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, and community organizations from across this region.
Parade: Sunset Spectacle
The highlight of the festivities is the Sunset Pride Parade, which takes place on Saturday, June 13th. The parade will step off at approximately 8 PM from 7th Avenue South in the Lakeview District. Expect a dazzling display of illuminated floats, energetic marching bands, and a diverse array of community groups, all celebrating the spirit of Pride under the evening sky.

PrideFest: Live Entertainment at Linn Park
The celebration continues with PrideFest at Historic Linn Park on Sunday, June 14th. This family-friendly event features live performances from local and national artists, drag shows, food vendors, and community booths. This event is free and open to all!
History of Central Alabama Pride
Celebrating its 46th year, Central Alabama Pride stands as a testament to the enduring strength and unity of the LGBTQ+ community in the South. Central Alabama Pride traces its roots back to 1979, making it one of the oldest continuous Pride celebrations in the American South. Born out of a need for visibility and solidarity in a deeply conservative region, the event began as a modest gathering of activists and allies in Birmingham who were determined to push back against stigma and claim space for the LGBTQ+ community.
